You will have the opportunity to walk through the tiny alleys, visit with locals that live in this area, and learn how their day-to-day life is both similar and different to yours. Then, visit a preschool-type school inside the slum and have the opportunity to teach basic health education (topic dependent on current need) to teachers and administration that enable them to care for the children (examples of needs include caring for children with water-borne illnesses, food preparation hygiene to prevent disease, preventing TB and malaria, etc.) These mini-seminars are geared towards teaching basic information to instructors that live in slum areas and have committed to teaching children from their communities to increase their ability to attend school and break cycles generational poverty.
